Gay Rights and Religious Reactions

January 2nd, 2009

Ok….so here is an article:

http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20081112/NEWS01/811120369

The basic gist is, during church service one Sunday, a whole slew of gay rights activists stood up, made a ruckis, threw out flyers and such, and generally caused mayhem. Now this was in the middle of CHURCH. I don’t think this can be SPUN in a good way. I don’t think there is a way to justify this. Any takers? Your thoughts, either for or against this action, are welcome.

And so it begins

January 2nd, 2009

Well,
Haven’t ranted in a while…here’s a short one. There was a doctrine put in place decades ago, then thankfully abolished in Regan’s administration, that stated something along the lines of the following:

In an effort to be fair to everyone, any broadcast media that discusses important public information must use multiple viewpoints, ergo…if you have a conservative…you must have a liberal.

That’s all fine and well, that ’sounds’ fair. Generally speaking, every broadcast organization followed those rules by……not discussing anything controversial. So, while they were indeed following the law, American’s were left uninformed of things. Regan did away with the doctrine, which spawned news shows, talk radio, etc.

Now here comes the bad news. Obama is considering enacting a similar bill. It’s not the fairness doctrine, as that would definitely cause an uproar across this country. What this bill would do is extend the power of the FCC to pull licenses for broadcast companies that aren’t operating under a vague rule called localism. Localism states that a broadcast company must serve the interests of their local communities.

That in itself, sounds ok…but the repercussions can be huge. The FIRST ever case of localism being used by the FCC was under the direction of the lovely REVEREND Jeremiah Wrights congregation. Rev. Wright’s church SUCCESSFULLY stripped the license from a Southern station that they felt wasn’t adequately covering a civil rights movement. This means that under the theory of localism, a church said a radio station could not broadcast because they weren’t liberal enough.

Obama’s plan is to REDEFINE localism to give community activists the power to demand more local, liberal content. If the station owner does not comply, licenses will be revoked and given to minority owners. This means the station will now be owned by an inherently liberal owner. This breeds more liberal shows, less conservative shows, and there will be no fairness doctrine around to REQUIRE equal time from both sides. This could even lead so far as christian radio stations being forced to broadcast muslim programs. I said it prior to the election, I’ll say it again. Obama is not giving us the change we need.

Soapbox Drama

January 2nd, 2009

It seems that I have been abusing facebook.com lately with a few rants, so I guess I’ll start cross posting here and on Myspace.com.  Should make life interesting.  Please feel free to leave comments on anything, but anything that is just plain rude or attacking I’ll delete.  Keep things on point and nothing personal, and this should be fun.

And here is the plasma chamber.  This is just a screen saver type program with techno music from the 90’s.  Hit the space bar to take a picture of whats on the screen.  Same install, basically just unzip everything to one directory and run Plasma.exe.  Lemme know what you all think.

The Planetarium

November 29th, 2008

Just unzip everything to some directory and launch the file ‘Planetarium.exe’.  When your in it, hit the ‘H’ key to open the help window (basically, a list of all the keys).  The ‘I’ key is kinda interesting.  If things are running too slow, hit the ‘G’ key to cycle through the available video modes…smaller = faster.  Oh, and turn on your speakers….there’s music.  Lemme know what you think, or if you think some feature would be cool.  I tweaked a good deal out of it tonight, so I back up to speed on the language.  new features shouldn’t be hard to add!

Coming Along

January 18th, 2008

Well, this is working out rather nicely….got a few things straightened out here.  This new host might actually work out pretty good.  For a recap, we got the JPAS site running…that was one of my major concerns.  Only thing we lost was one day of convo’s in the chat room.  Also got web mail up and running, woo hoo.  The image gallery also transfered over without a problem.  Got the Proxy set up, so you all can browse other sites without getting blocked by nasty corporate firewalls.    Also got a nice Web Based FTP Client online.  Now its time to try out a few other things.
